RIBBONS FOR SALE!!

By Darlene Harris Laibl-Crowe

The ribbons are available and can be obtained by sending name, address, and quantity of ribbons along with check or money order to:

Helen Keller National Center
141 Middleneck Rd
Sand Point, New York 11050

The cost of each ribbon is $5.50 (.50 cents for shipping & handling).

The ribbon symbolizes HKNC along with its ability to enrich its students' lives to go home and face their struggles. The macramé cord symbolizes the strong foundation of HKNC while the black (darkened pavement) symbolizes the DBs journey. The light from the edges symbolizes the tools and skills that HKNC provides its students which gives them the strength to go home and face their struggles whether it be with family, community or in work environment. The poem basically reaffirms this.

I hope each of you will want to buy some and even share with others. These ribbons are going to be a great tool of awareness. It is eye catching and if someone asks what HKNC means; then all you have to do is simply say.Let me tell you about HKNC and share about how important it is that awareness is made about deaf-blindness. Also, this could help to increase the awareness that those who are visually and hearing impaired should register with HKNC so that the statistics could help in building stronger laws to assist the needs of the visually and hearing impaired.

I have been working hard and will get the ribbons out as soon as I can. I am hoping to take at least 100 of them to the AADB Symposium in KY.

Poem By Darlene Harris Laibl-Crowe

Stepping onto the darkened pavement;
Edged with a shimmer of light;
Lends a strength of empowerment
To boldly stand and face the fight.
